“It breaks my heart to say this but if we don’t move now, we’re going to starve!”

Then — Jared and his wife…….. lived a meagre life in the north of Bulgaria in a small town called Kavarna. When the poor yields started, at first Jared thought it was just the weather. But as time passed, he realised the little beautiful town would no longer be home to a peasant farmer like himself.

In the early rise of spring, Jared moved his family, into the small town of Ravda and rented a cabin a few kilometres from the river Danube.

As soon as his wife and kids were settled in, Jared wasted no time in scouting the region for a good place to farm. Not knowing anyone in the neighbourhood, forced him to knock on doors soliciting available lands for lease. But no matter how red he got his knuckles he came up empty-handed.

Desperate at this point and with spring fast approaching, Jared raced to the mayor after seeing a plot of land filled with garbage and rocks the size of houses after two months of searching. “Mayor! Mayor!” he shouted. “Can I buy this land? Can I use it for farming?”

“Buy it? You can have it! It’s a massive wasteland and no one cares about it! You’d be doing us a favour if you did you turn it into something —…
