My First Book Was Absolute Flop — Here’s Why
And how you can avoid them
As a child, I heard countless folktales about the wise tortoise — slow but shrewd. In one story, the tortoise was asked how he became so wise. “I learn from the mistakes of others,” he said. I’ve tried to live by those words, but I’ve come to realize that no matter how cautious we are, we still make mistakes.
Call it the inevitabilities of life — if you may.
One of my biggest missteps was publishing my first book. Driven by excitement and a not-so-good incentive (which I’ll get into), I rushed the process and, unsurprisingly, it flopped.
Here are the mistakes I made and how you can avoid them.
My Why Was Off
That summer was tough. I had just quit my job and was desperate to finally uncover the secret to making money online before I exhausted my savings.
“I've always wanted to write a book. Now would be a great time. Besides, I think I have really great ideas from many years of reading. It’s time.” I said to myself.
Quickly, I began the process of drafting each chapter, looking for a good title, and finally researching Amazon Self Publishing, which I felt at the time, was the best and most cost-effective route for book publishing.
